Awkward Silence – a short play, in one act
Act 1 – Scene 1
[A husband and wife are seated in their living room. A clock ticks quietly].
(Wife) I think I deserve an honest answer.
(Husband) Very well. Before we met, I had an affair with your father.
(Wife) Okay; but that doesn’t really answer the question, does it?
(Husband) Sorry, what was the question again?
(Wife) Would you rather be a parrot, which can talk, but doesn’t understand words; or a dog, which understands them, but can’t speak?
*Awkward silence*
