“Rather than arresting a young man when he was caught shoplifting in Islington, police officers took him to the foodbank recently.
Adam had not eaten for four days and had finally resorted to stealing bread and eggs from a local shop. After experiencing 23 days benefit delay Adam had tried begging for food and was desperate. Arrested by plain clothes officers, he was distraught at having been forced to turn to crime to feed himelf. Fortunately, the police officers were so moved by his plight that they took him to Islington Foodbank. Adam cried with gratitude when he saw the bags of food and the police were so impressed by the foodbank service that they asked to become official foodbank voucher holders.”
